Last year demanded a lot from healthcare professionals and healthcare organisations. Catch-up care and recovery of healthcare professionals will go hand in hand in the coming period. The government therefore decided to extend the subsidy scheme for COVID jobs in healthcare until 31 December 2021. These COVID jobs are temporary jobs that support healthcare professionals. EUR 40 million is available for period 2.

The government wants to stimulate public and private VET colleges to develop innovative and flexible educational programmes in the third learning pathway. These programmes should be aimed at workers and jobseekers. The aim of the subsidy scheme, which focuses on public and private VET colleges, is to jointly develop flexible educational programmes that meet the needs of workers and jobseekers.
Partnerships between public and private VET colleges are eligible for subsidy. They can only submit joint applications for subsidy for the development of innovative and flexible educational programmes for adults in the third learning pathway. The funded educational institution submits the application on behalf of the partnership and acts as the lead agency.

Adults up to 56 years of age who want to attend further training or retraining but are no longer entitled to regular student financing can borrow money for training. This lifelong learning credit allows workers and jobseekers who want to attend a VET course, for example, to pay the tuition fees.

Leve(n)lang Gelders Vakmanschap focuses on companies in the technology sector. Employers, employees and jobseekers who want to work in technology are offered retraining and further training courses with the support of liaison coaches.

Subsidy scheme for labour market regions in the province of Gelderland
With a subsidy of EUR 4 million, the province of Gelderland offers the labour market regions room for additional services to help cope with the consequences of the COVID crisis.
Two lines of action are being pursued: work-to-work counselling combined with retraining, and support in tackling the shortage of practice placementswork placements and apprenticeships.

The fund is available for management, HR managers and employees. A +O Metalektro offers practical and concrete services, such as fees and subsidies for training and guidance.

Jobseekers from Rotterdam who want to retrain or attend further training for jobs that are in high demand can apply for up to €2,500 from the Rotterdam Training Fund.
The training vouchers are meant for, among others, young people who, in 2020, obtained a VET diploma for a sector where there are no vacancies due to COVID.

The Minister of Social Affairs and Employment will make €48 million available from 2021 for initiatives aimed at stimulating learning and development in SMEs.
The application round for individual companies will open again on Tuesday 2 March 2021. Later in the year, there will be another application round for partnerships and a second application round for individual companies.

Stagefonds Zorg is meant for care institutions that offer practice placementswork placements to students attending a nursing, care or social work and community training course. The training courses to become a doctor's assistant, pharmacy assistant or dental assistant are also eligible for subsidy.
The budget for the 2019-2020 study year is EUR 112 million. You could apply for the subsidy from 21 August to 1 October 2020.
The most important conditions:
- The care institution offered a practice placement (school-based pathway or work-based pathway) in the 2019-2020 study year for a training course that is included in the subsidy scheme
- The care institution is funded under one of the healthcare acts

With the Subsidy Scheme for Practical Learning, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science encourages accredited work placement companies to offer apprenticeships (work-based pathway) to VET students. The scheme also applies to companies coaching apprentices in preparatory secondary vocational education and training (vmbo), special secondary education (vso) and practical education.
On 15 May, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science decided to give the subsidy scheme an extra boost of 10.6 million euros in both 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.
The subsidy scheme is implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, RVO).
